Urban Energy Justice, Vulnerability, and Policy

energyjusticewordleThis research theme examines the intersection of residential energy (generation, consumption and affordability) and equity concerns in urban America.

Studies include:

  • metropolitan disparities in residential energy efficiency
  • barriers to energy technology adoption in low- to moderate-income communities
  • institutional structures that produce and sustain inequality
  • the lived experience of households in energy poverty
  • the efficacy of spatially-targeted, community-based energy projects to achieve energy justice

Sustainable Communities Study

071015This research theme examines the efforts of local governments and nonprofit organizations to create communities that are environmentally, economically, and equitably sustainable.

This includes:

  • studying local government adoption of green building and other sustainability-related policies
  • administration and analysis of the national Sustainable Communities Survey of members of the Community Action Partnership
