The making of a great rum begins with clean energy and efficiency

The Green Scholar is always looking for green activities. Upon visiting and touring the Bacardi Rum Factory in Puerto Rico, I learned that 80% of the operations energy is produced on site, from a combination of wind energy and methane from yeast.

Since 2006, when the Company began tracking its global impacts on the environment, Bacardi has reduced energy use by 25%, improved water use efficiency by 46%, and reduced GHG intensity ratio by 50% from BACARDÍ rum production.
