Knowledge transfer between nations is critical to solving our social, environmental, and economic global challenges.

Dr. Reames attended the US-Japan Exchange Program for Green Growth Collaboration through Clean Energy Technologies (EXCET) workshop at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan held January 16-17, 2024.
The EXCET workshop is dedicated to fostering an international network of researchers and experts spanning diverse fields, encompassing both engineering and social sciences. The primary objective is to formulate policy recommendations and actionable strategies that can effectively drive sustainable economic growth and facilitate the process of decarbonization in Japan and the United States. The far-reaching impact of this initiative is expected to reverberate through academia, industry stakeholders, and grassroots community
organizations alike.

He spoke on the US Government’s recommitment to energy justice as a central component of efforts to transform the energy system in order to meet sustainable development goals and avoid a cataclysmic climate disaster. He highlighted his work in the Biden-Harris Administration as Deputy Director for Energy Justice at the US Department of Energy.
Dr. Reames shared the keynote stage with Dr. Shin-ichi Tanabe from Waseda University.

The workshop was supported by the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, Waseda University, Osaka University, the US Department of State, and Japan Embassy.
